There are many theories about God, who He is, and if He even exists at all, but only Christians know for sure. Whilst, arriving at this place of certainty requires faith, there certainly is overwhelming anecdotal, scientific, and historical evidence to point us in the right direction.

Millions of people, from all over the world, claim the exact same thing – that Jesus is alive. From people who have grown up in the Church, to people who were previously stoic atheists, and every religion in between, they now claim with an absolute certainty not seen in any other religion, that the path to God is possible through faith in Jesus Christ. Their lives transformed, sometimes even to such an extreme as from hardened criminals and gang members, now God worshipping and good-doing Children of God. They experience miracles such as being freed from addictions, or being healed from cancer, and the hole in their heart that had them forever searching and wanting for more, now filled with the love of God.

As well as anecdotal evidence, the scientific evidence for God and creation is also overwhelming. But first, the distinction must be made between science and religious theory. Science is information gained through experimentation that delivers the same results every time. For example, letting go of an apple will result in it falling downwards every time due to gravity. Theories of the origins of the universe and everything in it are precisely that, theories. These theories are philosophical in nature, and, whilst the world of science does and should include theories as well as hard and fast evidence, the distinction must be made between the two. Although, we can certainly examine the evidence to point us in the correct direction pertaining to creationism versus evolution. A widely accepted theory is that human beings evolved from chimpanzees. This theory begs the question, ‘If this is correct, then where are all of the chimpanzee/humans in various stages of evolution?’ The answer is that there are not any. There are absolutely no examples observable in the natural world of any plant or animal species in various stages of evolution, or in fossil records. And, for evolution to even be possible in the first place, genetic information would need to be added. But, while we can observe DNA being rearranged, entirely new families of structural proteins and enzymes and the like are never added. Genetic mutations are in fact a loss of genetic information. Evolution simply is not a phenomenon that exists in the world. Natural selection however does, which is where the confusion first began, and the very big leap of faith in the wrong direction towards the theory of evolution first happened. An example of natural selection is dog breeding. Dogs can be bred to be smaller, or with longer tails, but they will never turn into a cat! And for theoretical sake evolution did exist, the mathematical probability of an inconceivable number of random mutations resulting in even the most simple functional one celled organism, let alone millions of species of plants and animals, all existing interconnectedly and dependant on each other in a finely balanced ecosystem necessary for life in the first place… well, mathematical impossibility rather than probability is a much more accurate description of the theory of evolution.

With such a vast body of textual evidence spanning numerous sources both Christian and not, archaeological findings, and the fulfilment of prophecies, the Bible has been proven to have more integrity and be more historically accurate than any other ancient book. What is particularly interesting is the fact that historical records written by even critics and adversaries of Jesus bare mention to specific geographical locations, events mentioned in the Bible, and even to the multitude of miracles He performed. Cities, events, and customs described in the Bible have been repeatedly confirmed by archaeological evidence. And hundreds of prophecies in the Old Testament, such as future scientific discoveries, events, places, and names of people, were consistently fulfilled. The physicist Hugh Ross calculated the odds of error-free fulfilment of these prophesies to be less than 1 in 10 to the power of 1000, equal to winning a lottery ten consecutive times with only one ticket entered each time. This is compelling evidence to suggest that the prophets writing these prophesies were indeed hearing from the very real God of the Bible. The Bible claims that on the 3rd day after the crucifixion, Jesus rose from the dead, and was seen by over 500 eyewitnesses. The Holy Spirit, an indwelling presence of God which is given to all whose position of faith is correct, was poured out to the disciples and other believers, empowering them to spread the word about Jesus and perform miracles. Many were persecuted and even killed by the enemies of Jesus, who were afraid of their communities following Jesus and His teachings, rather than themselves. It must be pointed out that it is very unlikely that anyone would have died for what they know to be a lie, or for someone who was simply just a ‘good man’. Given that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God and that He was risen from the dead, if He wasn’t and hadn’t, then Jesus would be a liar, and that would not make him a good man at all.

With such overwhelming anecdotal, scientific, and historical evidence supporting a very real God of a very accurate Bible, it would be foolish not to pay attention. Particularly when our eternal souls are at stake. The Bible tells us that Jesus died for our sins, and it is this way that God has paved for us to know Him and to live eternally in Heaven with Him when we die. It’s about acknowledging that the God of the Bible is the only one who defines reality and what is right and wrong, and submitting in obedience under Him rather than trying to take His place in deciding what is right and wrong, something no human being can ever do. Christianity is different from every other religion in the world, in that it is not a set of rules and doctrines, and it is indeed not a religion, but rather a personal relationship with God. Coming to God requires not blindly following worldly ideas of man, but thinking for yourself and searching with an open heart and with regard for the truth. It is then that God will reveal Himself to you as you enter into a personal relationship with Him, filling the hole in your heart that only God can fill.

Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. [John 14:6]
